| Musica de Filia's Four Unique Choirs
The Lyric Choir --Is directed by Jessica Russell. --Introduces girls in grades 2-5 to the world of choral music. --Membership is by audition and is appropriate for girls who reading at the second grade level or above (English, not music!), can enjoy sitting attentively through a 1-hour rehearsal, and have good pitch. Applicants are not expected to have any previous musical training. --Is a teaching choir. Girls will learn to sight sing and follow Kodaly hand signals, which will enhance their skills in learning music of various genres and languages. --Emphasis is on the enjoyment and learning gained from regular weekly practices, as opposed to frequent performances. --Performs in a school tour for one day in the spring, as well as our Holiday Concert in December and Spring Concert in May. The Apprentice Choir --Is directed by Jaye Churchill. The next step for girls in grades 4-6. --Girls are placed into the apprentice choir when they have developed the level of vocal talent and understanding of music theory required to sing more complex musical literature. --More mature behavior is expected from girls in this choir. --Choral scores have more parts and lyrics are often in foreign languages. --Like the Lyric Choir, the focus here is on musical and voice training, as well as developing poise, confidence and choral style. --Performs in a school tour for one day in the spring, a Holiday Concert and Spring Concert. --May perform more often if appropriate bookings are available. The Concert Choir --Is directed by Jaye Churchill with assistance from Jessica Russell. Girls in grades 7-12 may audition for the Concert Choir, including those who already belong to our Apprentice Choir (re-audition is necessary for in-coming 7th graders). --This large choir sometimes has as many as 100 members. --Sight singing will be an asset although it is not tested in the audition. Vocal quality must be very good, and pitch accurate. Poise, confidence and appropriate stage behavior are necessary characteristics of singers in the Concert Choir. --Performs more often than the younger choirs, at venues requiring more sophisticated performance skills, with more visibility in the community. The Chamber Choir --Is directed by Jaye Churchill. --Our most select choir for experienced choral singers in grades 8-12. --Membership in this choir is by audition and is limited to approximately 30 singers, although the exact number varies from year to year. --Auditions are held in May each year for the following fall. --Singers who wish to audition for this choir must be prepared to work on their music between rehearsals. Chamber choir singers must have the musical maturity to carry their own voice part confidently when singing in ensemble. Naturally, their vocal talent must be strong, as well. --Performs more often than our other choirs, at venues that require a smaller size performing group. Revised 4/07 Return to home page |
